What is oil refinery project?
An oil refinery or petroleum refinery is an industrial process plant where petroleum (crude oil) is transformed and refined into useful products such as gasoline (petrol), diesel fuel, asphalt base, fuel oils, heating oil, kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas and petroleum naphtha.
Refinery projects due to the greatness of activities with a group of large contractors and reputable engineering companies and over the years design, construction and installation are carried out and operated. What are the different types of refinery?
There are four types of refineries – topping, hydro-skimming, conversion, and deep conversion refineries.
Depending on the market a refiner is aiming at ,kind of crude oil( light ,heavy, sweet,sour), each refinery has its
unique design to ensure their production conforms to their host
country's set standards.
The development of the petro-refining industry is one of the projects
sought by the developed and developing countries in a bid to generate
higher value added.
Developed countries set the ground for the
significant growth of their petro-refining industries by setting up
chemical parks and petro-refinery units and providing special
instruments and facilities to these industries.
These countries are
trying to play a role in the future of the world energy market by
developing industries for converting crude oil into profitable items.
In
the meantime, Iran, which has a long history in the world's refining
industry, in coincidence with passing the law supporting the development
of downstream oil and gas condensate industries, i.e. the law on the
construction of petro-refineries, has taken an important step to move
away from selling crude oil.
What is the main purpose of a refinery?
Petroleum refineries change crude oil into petroleum products for use as fuels for transportation, heating, paving roads, and generating electricity and as feedstocks for making chemicals. Refining breaks crude oil down into its various components, which are then selectively reconfigured into new products.
The goal of this project was to produce petroleum products with higher added value through the refining of locally produced heavy crude oil for supplying the domestic market. The scope of the consortium was EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) and commissioning, in addition to off taking the products, and even cooperating in taking out a non-recourse loan to finance the project, which at the time was a revolutionary idea.
In carrying out the project, training was provided for the client's operators at Yekta group Office. The project also contributed to the creation of employment and industrial growth in Indonesia through the subcontracting of designing within the country, increasing the local procurement ratio.
